The Armory Show, the leading international contemporary and modern art fair, will open Wednesday, March 7th for invited guests and Thursday, March 8th through Sunday, March 11th, 2012 to the general public, on Piers 92 and 94 in central Manhattan.  The Armory Show – Contemporary and The Armory Show – Modern will offer visitors unparalleled access to the most important artwork of the 20th and 21st centuries in New York City.

The 2012 exhibitor list features a global roster of leading galleries such as Lisson Gallery (London), Sean Kelly (New York), Victoria Miro (London), David Zwirner (New York), Sprüth Magers (Berlin), Gallery Hyundai (Seoul), Galerie EIGEN + ART (Berlin), Marianne Boeksy (New York), Peter Blum (New York), Andrew Kreps Gallery (New York), Galleria Continua (San Gimignano, Beijing, Le Moulin), Sies + Höke (Düsseldorf), Massimo de Carlo (Milan), Galerie Thomas (Munich), Marlborough Gallery (New York), Galerie Ludorff (Düsseldorf), James Goodman Gallery (New York), G.A.M. Galleria d’Arte Maggiore (Bologna), Galerie Krinzinger (Vienna), Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects (Culver City), Kukje Gallery/Tina Kim Gallery (Seoul, New York), Hollis Taggart Galleries (New York), Greene Naftali (New York), and Galerie Guido W. Baudach (Berlin).  The outstanding exhibitor list is a testament to the exciting changes the fair has undertaken this year including a re-designed floor plan by the award-winning, New York City-based, architectural firm Bade Stageberg Cox and an enhanced programmatic schedule.

For its fourteenth edition, The Armory Show will inaugurate three exciting programming initiatives. Armory Film, curated by the Moving Image Fair, will feature an international selection of contemporary video and experimental films including:  Flight, 2011 by Liz Magic Laser; Rico Gatson: Gun Play; Mary Reid Kelley with Patrick Kelley: The Syphilis of Sisyphus; Alex Prager: Despair; and LeslieThornton: SONGS One Two Three. Screenings take place Thursday, March 8–Saturday, March 10, 5:00-8:00pm and Sunday, March 11, 4:00-7:00pm in The Wall Street Journal Media Lounge on Pier 94. Solo Projects, a section dedicated to single artist presentations, will debut on Pier 94 featuring eleven emerging dealers from around the world including Josée Bienvenu Gallery: Dario Escobar; Galeria Lucia de la Puente: Billy Hare ; Francois Ghebaly Gallery / Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery: Patrick Jackson; Horton Gallery: Wallace Whitney; KS Art: Tom Fairs ; MULHERIN: Mike Bayne; On Stellar Rays: CliffordOwens ; SEVENTEEN: Kate Owens ; TEAPOT: Christian Eisenberger; and Winkleman Gallery: Jennifer Dalton.

The inaugural edition of Armory Performance will debut in 2012 featuring artists active in the Nordic Region and in the United States. Armory Performance is curated in part by Malmö Konsthall director Jacob Fabricius and will feature: Kreppa: A Symphonic Poem about the Financial Situation in Iceland (by Örn Alexander Ámundason, performed by Metropolis Ensemble and directed by Andrew Cyr, Artistic Director/Conductor) whose performance will question what a financial collapse sounds like; Amorphous Assemblage (composed by Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen) which will take place throughout the fair floor as living sculptures emerge from white cocoons; OSLOO—A COLLECTION OF CENTERS—In New York (by: FOS), where the artist, for two hours and  accompanied by many, will host a programmed public event under the theme “public spiritualism”; and Armory Artist Theaster Gates will Hold Court for three days on the Armory Show floor in his SEE, SIT, SUP, SIP, SING: Holding Court. For the third edition of Armory Focus, The Armory Show has turned its attention to the dynamic arts community of the Nordic countries and will feature 19 of the most exciting galleries from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. This invitation-only component of The Armory Show, Armory Focus: The Nordic Countries is curated by the esteemed Malmö Konsthall director, Jacob Fabricius who has carefully crafted Armory Focus to include works by leading artists, an engaging schedule of performances, FREE STUFF and more. The work being produced in the Nordic region today includes some of the most engaging and dynamic practices and projects in the contemporary art world – artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Ragnar Kjartansson, FOS, Karl Holmqvist and Goldin + Senneby, will be featured prominently in Armory Focus, taking place on Pier 94 in the Nordic Lounge.

The Armory Show is located on Piers 92 and 94 on the Hudson River, Twelfth Avenue at West 55th Street in the Passenger Ship Terminal complex, conveniently located 20 blocks north of the Chelsea Gallery district and just west of Columbus Circle. The piers are easily accessible by public transportation, taxi, and private vehicle.
