Cartoonists – Foot Soldiers of Democracy (French: Caricaturistes – Fantassins de la démocratie) is a 2014 documentary film directed by Stéphanie Valloatto about 12 cartoonists around the world who risk their lives to defend democracy. The film premiered in the Special Screenings section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the César Award for Best Documentary Film at the 40th César Awards. Cartoonists documents 12 lovable lunatics, capturing the comic and tragic in all four corners of the earth: cartoonists who risk their lives to defend democracy, with a smile on their faces and a pencil as their only weapon.
