The Venezuelan American Endowment for the Arts is proud to support the mission of Institutional Assets and Monuments of Venezuela
About IAM Venezuela
Institutional Assets and Monuments of Venezuela is a project created to document, identify possible risks, create awareness and protect the Venezuelan cultural heritage.
Mission
Have a record of the current status of the Venezuelan assets and properties.
Generate alerts on the cultural heritage that may be at risk.
Encourage the heritage surveillance role of the citizens of Venezuela, through workshops on heritage, social media and citizen journalism.
Work on practical solutions to recover, preserve and reduce the risk of losing Venezuela’s cultural heritage.
As of April of 2015 we have documented:
Fire and explosives during protests that have caused property damages to the University City of Caracas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Deterioration of the sculptures in the West Park of Caracas.
Deterioration of a sculpture in the Jacobo Borges Museum.
Lack of maintenance in the constructive structure of the Museum of Fine Arts, with the risk that the building may collapse in the next few years.
Leaks in the halls of the Museum of Fine Arts and the National Art Gallery.
Education
We have also performed the first workshop on “Heritage, Museums and Citizen Journalism” held on April 17 of 2015 at the Metropolitan University of Caracas. This is the first of a series of workshops to be held in several cities in Venezuela to encourage Venezuelan citizens to being advocates of their heritage.
