Artist Statement

Hidden Nature.

The object is the meeting point between human beings and nature, the place where it’s transformed into a cultural artifact. Once turned into an object, nature loses its own attributes based on human needs: the raw material becomes “secondary matter,” relegated to a perceptual background where we can hardly recognize it.

Audino Díaz’s work consists in recuing nature from this cultural prison, exposing or replicating the primary dimension of objects, especially from household objects, through the same processes and tools that tend to hide it. He Intervenes industrial or manufactured materials, such as paper or veneer against, and carves and draws them to bring out their hidden nature, rebuilding the basic elements of surfaces and textures.

Instead of an impossible return to it’s origin, he’s “natural artifacts” reproduce the complex cultural process: if nature is lost when transformed into an object, the object disappears when its raw material predominates again, whether it is in a real or imaginary way.

In “natural artifact,” nature and culture meet again on more equal terms, thus to recognize the esence of the matter home, we recover something of our own animal nature, submerged beneath the endless impositions of homo faber.

Declaración del artista

Naturaleza Oculta.
