Dear Friends of VAEA
As we reflect on the past year, and a world which at times seems more out of balance and driven by conflict and division, I find myself being thankful for the enduring power of the arts and their ability to remind us of that within us which is capable of our highest purpose. I also find myself thankful for the many years of service VAEA has provided to this ideal.
Vaea sponsored museum visit for children
Over the course of its 33 years, VAEA has supported the work of countless young artists in both Venezuela and the United States, has honored some of the greatest artists and philanthropists of our time, fostered cultural exchange and understanding, supported the restoration of artistic works, catalogued the work of many important Latin American artists, supported arts education and the ability of young people to study abroad. It is a legacy I am proud of.
Maya Angelou said “All great artists draw from the same resource: the human heart, which tells us that we are all more alike than we are unalike.” Her quote embodies the important work artists do and role that work plays in society especially in times of great turbulence or suffering, and when healing is needed.
I believe we should remind ourselves of this truth especially now.
Thank you for being a part of our family, and blessings for the coming year and for our larger human family.
We are proud to have recently announced that the next recipient of the Páez Medal of Art will be violinist and music advocate Joshua Bell, considered one of the most important musicians of our time.
With love,
Ali Cordero Casal
Chairman & C.E.O.
