Biography and Artist Statement

I was born in Caracas in 1975 and I’m a photographer since 2006.

Without proposing it myself, I have found myself with the everyday life as a reoccurring theme. This reveals a sort of inherent jugglery, a subtle humor that teaches us often our own weaknesses. I consider everyday life, and photography as well, as perfect metaphors of the human being that experiments a continuous loss.

I think that my photographs, as photography since its start, seek to store space/time. The own condition of the photographic element creates sequences that reveal the inseparable relationship between a single second and life. They are images that cancel the division between memory and experience. This process is a tracing so personal a sincere act of introspection.

My work is always being confronted with the concept of reality and with the concept of being simple documents of the banal registry. They are conceptually related between each other for long term memory, and at the same time, for the projection of this to the exterior world. When we question the everyday life, it seems possible and true that the truth exists, but a truth that has many diverse facets, like someday Kafka will propose in one of his writings. Maybe in my images you can appreciate easily some idiosyncrasies and peculiarities. In other occasions, maybe you can produce a sensation of timelessness. Maybe in other moments, the theft of shared memories will be seen.

My photographic work can seem to be saturated of obviousness, of clichés and of being an extension of my humor, but there’s no doubt that it questions the connective space that exists between the most profound significance and the apparent superficies of an image.

Nací en Caracas en 1975 y soy fotógrafo desde 2006.

Sin proponérmelo, me he encontrado con la cotidianidad como tema recurrente. Esta revela un cierto malabarismo inherente, un sutil humor que nos enseña a menudo nuestras propias debilidades. Considero a la cotidianidad, y a la fotografía también, como perfectas metáforas del ser humano que experimenta una continua pérdida.

Creo que mis fotografías, como toda fotografía desde su invención, buscan almacenar el espacio/tiempo. La propia condición del elemento fotográfico crea secuencias que revelan la relación inseparable entre un solo segundo y la vida. Son imágenes que anulan la división entre la memoria y la experiencia. Este proceso es un seguimiento tan personal como lo es un acto sincero de introspección.

Mis obras están siempre siendo confrontadas con el concepto de realidad y con el concepto de ser simples documentos de registro banal. Están conceptualmente relacionadas entre sí para la simple memoria, y a su vez, para la proyección de esta al mundo exterior. Al cuestionar la cotidianidad, parece posible y cierto que exista la verdad, pero una verdad que tiene muchas y diversas facetas, como alguna vez lo planteara Kafka en alguno de sus escritos. Tal vez en mis imágenes se puedan apreciar fácilmente algunas idiosincrasias y peculiaridades. En otras ocasiones, quizá tan solo se produzca una sensación de atemporalidad. Tal vez, en otros momentos, se vea el robo de recuerdos prestados.

Mi trabajo fotográfico podría aparentar estar saturado de obviedad, de clichés y de ser una extensión de mi humor, pero no hay duda que cuestiona el espacio conectivo que existe entre el más profundo significado y la aparente superficialidad de una imagen.
