Biography

Mariangela Lopez is a Brooklyn-based choreographer and performer from Caracas, Venezuela. Her pieces have been presented in Venezuela, Mexico, France, Boston, and multiple venues in New York City, including Williamsburg Art Nexus, Dixon Place, Danspace Project, Dance New Amsterdam, Movement Research at the Judson Church, P.S 122, Dance Theater Workshop, Tisch School of the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Exchange and MonkeyTown.

Mariangela has collaborated as a choreographer with Christian Joy (visual artist and fashion designer) in various projects since 2011, she also choreographed the “psycho-opera” Stop the Virgens by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ vocalist Karen O, presented by the Creators Project and Saint Ann’s Warehouse in October 2011 and at the Vivid Festival in Australia at the Sydney Opera House in May 2012.

Mariangela was the Associate Director of the Community Programs of Gina Gibney Dance (2005-2009). Mariangela has taught at Movement Research, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Dance New Amsterdam, the Harkness Center 92 Street Y, Ballet Hispanico and the Laban Institute of Movement Studies, NYC. Currently, Mariangela teaches Movement and Dance the The Blue School. Mariangela is a Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban Institute of Movement Studies (2001) and has a BFA from the Boston Conservatory (1999).Mariangela was a 2009-10 Movement Research Artist in Residency and a Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) Artist In Residency (2011-13).

Mariangela López es una coreógrafa y artista escénica que está actualmente basada en Brooklyn y es de Caracas, Venezuela. Sus piezas han sido presentadas en Venezuela, México, Francia, Boston y múltiples lugares en la ciudad de Nueva York, incluyendo Williamsburg Art Nexus, Dixon Place, Danspace Project, Dance New Amsterdam, Movement Research en el Judson Church, P.S 122, Dance Theater Workshop, Tisch School of the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Exchange y MonkeyTown.

Mariangela ha colaborado como coreógrafa con Christian Joy (artista plástico y diseñador de modas) en varios proyectos desde 2011, ella también coreografió el “psycho- opera” Stop the Virgen por la vocalista de los Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O, presentada por el Creators Project y Saint Ann’s Warehouse en octubre del 2011 y en el Vivid Festival en Australia en el la casa de opera de Sídney en mayo del 2012.
