Biography
Victoria Deyalsingh Gómez was born in Caracas in 1972, where she studied Advertising and Marketing in the IUNP and Fine Arts at the Art School Cristobal Rojas. She worked as a model for the main Art Schools in Caracas. At 23 years old she emigrated to Europe because of the political situation in the country. She lived in Montpellier, France where she studied French and Pattern Designing. She worked as a costume designer and events decorator in the Night Club Le Soleil. Four years later she moved to Barcelona, Spain where she studied Introduction to Philosophy in the UNED, Introduction to Fashion Design at the Design School Felicidad Duce and Corporal and Artistic Expression in the Laboratory School. She was the Director and PPRR of CMYK, International Festival of Independent Magazines for 2 consecutive years in Barcelona. After a long career as Art Director and PPRR for the fashion brand Martin Lamothe, turn as Head of Marketing and PPRR of the Art and Fashion Magazine METAL, she participated in prestigious international events as the Barcelona Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week and Bread&butter in Barcelona and Berlin. Given the economic crisis that affected Spain, especially the world of art and fashion, she decided to self-study the paper art techniques, developing a new stage of artistic expression. She participated in some festivals like Sonar Kids, conducted workshops for children in bookshops like Abracadabra and Space Multidisciplinary Art Space like Miscellaneous. Currently she lives in Kassel, Germany where she has made several street installations , show window decorations, workshops, exhibitions, lamps and paper structures. She is the Art Director of her own brand Keep Organic. In parallel include his career as a Music Selector that has allowed her to play music in different spaces of Barcelona, Berlin, Kassel and Pichilemu, Chile.
Artist Statement
My work is inspired by Nature and my close relationship with her. The language of my work is organic and reflects a deep insight into the shapes, backgrounds, lights and shadows found in natural environments. I use simple techniques such as cutting, folding, gluing and basic materials like paper, white glue and scissors which I combine with natural materials such as branches, organic fabrics, rustic metal, wood, etc … My ongoing research on the paper techniques of Origami and Kirigami has allowed me to develop an authentic work whose virtue is transform an ordinary material present in our lives in different ways (money, books, papers, cards, etc ..), in something unusual with a simple appearance, a subtle beauty and organic that conveys fragility and forcefulness as Nature itself and its constant transformation.
Biografia
Victoria Deyalsingh Gómez naciò en Caracas en 1972, donde estudió Publicidad y Marketing en el IUNP y Artes Plásticas en la Escuela Cristóbal Rojas. Trabajó como modelo de pose para las principales Escuelas de Arte en Caracas. A los 23 años emigró a Europa debido a la situación política del País. Vivió en Montpellier, Francia donde estudió francés y Patronaje. Trabajó como diseñadora de vestuario y decoradora de eventos en el Night Club Le Soleil. Cuatro años después emigró a Barcelona, España donde estudió Introducción a la Filosofía en la UNED, Introducción al Diseño de Moda en la Escuela Superior de Diseño Felicidad Duce y Expresión Corporal Artística en el Laboratorio Escuela. Fue Directora y PR del CMYK, Primer Festival Internacional de Revistas Independientes durante 2 años consecutivos en Barcelona. Tras una larga carrera profesional como Directora Artístico y PR de la marca de moda Martin Lamothe, a su vez como Responsable de Marketing y PR de la Revista de Arte y Moda METAL, participó en eventos de prestigio internacional como Barcelona Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week y Bread&butter en Barcelona y Berlín. Dada la gran crisis económica que afectó a España, principalmente al mundo del arte y la moda, decidió estudiar de forma autodidacta las técnicas de trabajar el papel, desarrollando una nueva etapa de expresión artística. Participó en diversos festivales como el Sónar Kids, realizó talleres para niños en librerías especializadas como Abracadabra y el Espacio Multidisciplinario Miscelanea. Actualmente vive en Kassel, Alemania donde ha realizado diversas instalaciones en la calle, decoraciones de escaparates, talleres, exposiciones, colecciones de lámparas y estructuras de papel de uso múltiple. Es la Directora Artístico de su propia marca Keep Organic. Paralelamente cabe destacar su trayectoria en el ámbito musical que le ha permitido compartir su selección musical en diversos espacios de Barcelona, Berlín, Kassel y Pichilemu, Chile.
Declaracion de Artista
Mi trabajo está inspirado en la Naturaleza y en mi estrecha relación con ella. El lenguaje de mi obra es orgánico y refleja una visión profunda sobre las formas, fondos, luces y sombras que se encuentran en los ambientes naturales. Utilizo técnicas simples como cortar, doblar, pegar y materiales básicos como el papel, el pegamento blanco y las tijeras que combino con materiales naturales como ramas, tejidos orgánicos, metal rústico, madera, etc.. Mi constante investigación sobre las técnicas del origami y el kirigami me ha permitido desarrollar una obra auténtica que tiene como virtud transformar un material ordinario, presente en nuestras vidas en diferentes formas (dinero, libros, documentos, tarjetas, etc..), en algo inusual, de apariencia simple, de una belleza sutil y orgánica que transmite fragilidad y contundencia como la Naturaleza misma y su constante proceso de transformación.
