ALBERTO JOSE SANCHEZ

Biography

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, 1979. Since his early childhood, Alberto José showed interest in drawing, painting, mixing colors and other visual experiences with different techniques and materials. During adolescence he became attracted to kinetic art, experimenting and creating various works with clear features of this artistic movement. His main inspiration at this stage was the work of the Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez, who years later he will visit and meet in Paris in his workshop, having the opportunity to have a close look at his work. Likewise, during this stage Alberto José was strongly influenced with the art pieces of another Venezuelan artist, Jesus Soto.

In 2003 Alberto José Sánchez graduated in Business Administration at the Metropolitan University of Venezuela, but was always connected with the visual arts community. During those years he met different relevant figures of the visual arts, such as Oswaldo Vigas, whose workshop he also visited in Caracas to have a close look at his work. Although he had always shown interest in kinetic art, it is not until the middle of 2007 when he began to make purely abstract-geometric works and it is at this moment in his creative process that he finds his true passion.

Sánchez works are based on purely geometric shapes constructed in two dimensions, structurally defined to generate and suggest a three-dimensional composition, thanks to the application of contrasting colors and the use of virtual shadows.

In Miami Art Basel 2014, he created and installed a public masterpiece, a 40m Mural, located in Wynwood. In the first trimester of 2015 Alberto Jose had a solo exhibition, called Virtual Shadows at Cynergi Building also at Wynwood, Miami. In May 2015 Sanchez had an exhibition, called Emergent at Ranivilu Gallery also at Wynwood

His work is mainly characterized by the use of contrasting colors in acrylic on canvas.

Artist Statement

With my work I seek to generate a three dimensional sensory impact through the fusion of reason and visual logic. Shapes and lines in a plane define the structure of the work, that when combined with the proper application of shadows and colors, create the impression of the third dimension and the unreal space.

Shadows are the darkness or diminished light caused by a blocking of a light source. It is also the reflection of something produced by light hitting the object or body.

Virtual is something that exists in essence or effect though not in actual fact. It Exists in the mind, especially as a product of the imagination.

Virtual shadows become a crucial element of my work, highlighting the subjectivity of the three dimensions.

In my pieces I seek not only to elevate reality from two to three dimensions, but to communicate a pleasant visual impact through the harmony of colors and shapes.

I mainly work with acrylic on canvas, because it pleases me to integrate traditional painting techniques with the visual geometrical precision and firmness of my pieces.

Nacido en caracas, Venezuela en 1979. Desde pequeño muestra interés en la pintura y todo lo referente a las artes plásticas experimentando con diferentes técnicas y materiales. En la adolescencia comienza a mostrar interés por el arte cinético, experimentando y creando diversas obras con características claras de esta corriente artística. Su inspiración principal en esta etapa es el venezolano Carlos Cruz-Diez, a quien años más tarde visitará y conocerá en París en su taller, para visualizar de cerca su trabajo y obra. Igualmente el Venezolano Jesús Soto fue una influencia importante durante esta etapa del artista. Inicia estudios Universitarios y en el 2003 se gradúa en Administración en la Universidad Metropolitana de Venezuela, pero nunca se desvincula del medio artístico. Conoce a diferentes personalidades como por ejemplo al maestro Oswaldo Vigas, a quien también visita en su taller en Caracas para conocer su trabajo y obra. Aunque en sus inicios había mostrado interés por el arte cinético, no es sino a mediados del 2007 cuando comienza a realizar obras meramente abstracto-geométricas y es en este momento de su proceso creativo cuando encuentra su verdadera pasión.

Sus obras se basan en figuras netamente geométricas en dos dimensiones, estructuralmente definidas para generar y sugerir una formación tridimensional gracias también a la aplicación de colores contrastantes y al uso de sombras virtuales.

Durante el Art Basel 2014 diseñó y realizó Un Mural Publico de 40Mts ubicado en Wynwood Miami. A principios del 2015 se llevó a cabo la exhibición individual Virtual Shadows en Cynergi Bulding en Wynwood Miami. En mayo 2015 Sánchez realizó una exposición llamada Emergent en la Galeria Ranivilu también en Wynwood.

Principalmente su obra se caracteriza por el uso del acrílico sobre lienzo.

Declaracion de Artista

Con mi obra busco generar un impacto mental de tres dimensiones a través de la unión de la razón y la lógica visual. Formas y líneas en un plano delimitan la estructura de la obra, que al conjugarlo con la adecuada aplicación de sombras y colores, generan la impresión de la tercera dimensión y del espacio irreal.

Las sombras son la oscuridad o la disminución de la luz causada por el bloqueo de una fuente de luz. Es también el reflejo de algo que se produce cuando una luz golpea un objeto o cuerpo.

Virtual es algo que existe en esencia o efecto aunque no en realidad. Existe en la mente, sobre todo como un producto de la imaginación.

Las sombras virtuales pasan a ser un factor preponderante dentro de mi obra, logrando exaltar la subjetividad de las tres dimensiones.

Con mi trabajo no sólo busco abstraer la realidad de las dos dimensiones, sino también y no menos importante, causar un impacto visual agradable a través de la armonía de los colores y de las figuras.

Principalmente trabajo el acrílico sobre lienzo, porque me satisface el poder conectar lo tradicional y puro del arte con la firmeza del resultado visual de mi obra.
