Alejandra Loreto

Biography

Alejandra Loreto was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1987. She has always been interested in traveling and learning about the world. She was raised in Caracas and at the age of 18 she went to Paris to study French and Art History for one year. While studying Architecture at the Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas, she began to take photography courses and learning on her own. Always between Architecture and Photography she found the way to gain education experiences abroad: exchange program at Stuttgart University in Germany (2010), an internship at Mazzanti & Arquitectos in Colombia (2011) and in 2014 began a Master in ‘Arts as Urban Innovation’ at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

In 2014 her work was presented in the renowned MAK Museum in Vienna for the Photo::Vienna exhibition. The same year her work was exhibited at the prestigious Bienal Salón Arturo Michelena 67 and she is part of the group exhibition “A showcase of women in contemporary photography in Venezuela” which was presented in Museo de Arte Acarigua-Araure (MAAA) and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Zulia (MACZUL). Among other recognitions is the National Geographic Viewer’s Choice Award in 2011.

Artist’s Statement

“Photography is, for me, a spontaneous impulse coming from an ever attentive eye which captures the moment and its eternity.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

Because everything is transitory and we only have the present to live, my photographic approach represents questions related to the sense of time and the relation between man and nature. I am passionate about the space we inhabit, the world and its landscapes. This intrinsic concern has led me to many places and travel without fear. I go without expectations. I go to live in the moment. And this is how I find pictures. Abstract geometries, rigorous compositions, time, space and minimalism are elements used in order to create intense atmospheres that evoke feelings such as solitude and loneliness making us remember our mortality as human beings and the ephemerality of life.

Biografia

Alejandra Loreto nació en Caracas, Venezuela en 1987. Ella siempre ha estado interesada en viajar y aprender sobre el mundo. Fue criada en Caracas y a los 18 años fue a Paris a estudiar francés e historia del arte por un año. Mientras estudiaba arquitectura en la Universidad Simón Bolívar en Caracas, empezó a tomar clases de fotografía y encontró una manera de ganar experiencias educacionales en el exterior: programas de intercambio en la Universidad Stuttgart en Alemania (2010), una pasantía en Mazzanti & Arquitectos en Colombia (2011) y en el 2014 empezó un posgrado en “arte como una innovación urbana” en la Universidad de las artes en Viena.

En el 2014 su trabajo fue presentado en el famoso museo MAK en Viena en la exhibición Photo::Viena. Ese mismo año, su trabajo fue expuesto en el prestigioso Bienal Salón Arturo Michelena 67 y formo parte de la exposición en grupo “Once miradas femeninas en la fotografía contemporánea venezolana” en el Museo de Arte Acarigua-Araure (MAAA) y en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Zulia (MACSUL). Otra de sus reconocimientos es el premio National Geographic Viewers Choice en el 2011.

Declaracion de artista

“La fotografía, para mi, es un impulso espontaneo que viene de un ojo bien atento que captura el momento y su eternidad” –Henri Cartier- Bresson

porque todo es transitorio y solo tenemos el presente para vivir, mi acercamiento a la fotografía representa preguntas relacionadas al sentido del tiempo y la relación entre el hombre y la naturaleza. Soy apasionada sobre el espacio que habitamos, el mundo y sus paisajes. Esta preocupación intrínseca me a guiado a varios lugares y viajes sin miedo. Voy sin expectaciones. Voy a vivir en el momento. Y es así que encuentro las fotos. Geometrías abstractas, composiciones rigorosas, tiempo, espacio y minimalismo son elementos usados para poder crear ambientes que evocan sentimientos como solitud y soledad haciéndonos recordar nuestra mortalidad como humanos y los efímero de la vida.
