Jean Nouel
Architect graduated from the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in 2008. Dedicated to the art and cultural management independently, he is currently dedicated to curate the artwork and collection of Alí Cordero Casal (president of the Venezuelan American Endowment for the Arts – VAEA and the Acarigua Araure Museum of Art – MAAA), develop museology projects, and maintain his process of artistic production and investigation.
Artist Statement
By working with the image, I have let loose a set of ideas that have been linked to my personal experiences, mixed with the influence of art, the feminine, and contemporary culture. This has led me to create different characters building a “subjective reality” and fanciful one, where fiction and reality are intertwined.
From this “subjective reality”, I try to open a dialogue with a particular world, becoming somehow a self-portrait, in which actors and situations intertwine with space. As if it were a film, they take over the scene and assume their world, their psychology, operating in the viewer’s sensitivity; these ideas turn into images or visual approaches that try, apart from the personal, to reflect the desires, passions and hysteria of today’s society.
My projects have been developed through various means. In my begginings, painting and drawing led me to create an imaginary for what I do now. Photography, without pretensions of cataloguing me as a photographer, has become my express way to create. Currently, and without separating myself of the topics and media previously worked, I’m interested in the immediacy of mobile photography, the processes of social networks both in terms of creation and interaction, and how this everyday environment (mobiles/networks) allows us to generate a product at any time which can inspire, evoke, or demand something, or even generate dialogues.
Arquitecto egresado de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la UCV en el año 2008. Dedicado al arte y la gestión cultural de manera independiente, actualmente hace la curaduría del trabajo artístico y de colección de Ali Cordero Casal (presidente de VAEA y Museo de Arte Acarigua Araure), desarrolla proyectos de museografía y mantiene su proceso de producción e investigación artística.
Declaración del artista
Al trabajar con la imagen, he dejado fluir un conjunto de ideas que han estado ligadas a las experiencias personales, mezcladas con la influencia del arte, lo femenino y la cultura actual. Esto me ha llevado a crear distintos personajes construyendo una “realidad subjetiva” y fantasiosa, ficción y realidad quedan entrelazadas en cada imagen.
A partir de esta “realidad subjetiva” intento abrir un diálogo con un mundo particular, convirtiéndose de alguna manera en un autorretrato, donde los actores y situaciones se entrecruzan con el espacio. Como si de una película se tratara se apoderan de la escena y asumen su mundo, su psicología; accionando en el espectador su sensibilidad. Ideas que se convierten en imágenes o planteamientos visuales que tratan, aparte de lo personal, reflejar los deseos, pasiones e histerias de la sociedad actual.
Los proyectos han sido desarrollados a través de distintos medios. En mis comienzos la pintura y el dibujo me llevaron a crear un imaginario para lo que actualmente hago. La fotografía, sin pretender llamarme fotógrafo, se ha convertido en ese medio expreso para crear. Actualmente y sin desligarme de los medios y temas trabajados, me interesa la inmediatez de la fotografía móvil, los procesos de redes sociales tanto a nivel de creación e interacción y como este medio cotidiano (celular/redes) nos permite en cualquier momento generar un producto, que puede conmover, evocar o demandar algo… generar diálogos.
