Jon Konkol

Biography

Jon Konkol was born and raised in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his BFA from University of Cincinnati in painting, performance, and video art. He moved to New York City in 2010 and he works from his Brooklyn apartment.

Artist Statement

My work is derived from what I’ve seen and thought and heard and done in the past 30 years. The swirling mass of mistakes man has made since the agricultural revolution is staggering, and we call it Civilization. I believe life is a miracle and unfortunately we’ve created a shit world. I believe that all of our problems are man made and we are the only ones who can solve them. Humans are physically made of the experience of their parents and their parents. If experience becomes DNA then my best hope to help the world is to have as many people see my work as possible in the hopes that it may evolve us into something more thoughtful and interesting.

The way I try to ensure my work is responsibly meeting this goal to avoid any direct meaning or thought process or transparency. If a work has no clear ‘message’ then it cannot be dismissed by a false understanding.

Jon Konkol nació y fue criado en los suburbio de Cincinnati, Ohio. Recibió su licenciado en pintura, artes escénicos y video arte en la Universidad de Cincinnati. Se mudó a la ciudad de Nueva York en el 2010 y trabaja desde su apartamento en Brooklyn.

Declaracion de Artista

Mi trabajo es derivado de lo que he visto y pensado y oído y hecho en los últimos 30 años. Los remolinos de errores que el hombre ha hecho desde la revolución agricultora es asombrante y la llamamos civilización. Creo que la vida es un milagro y desgraciadamente hemos creado un mundo de mierda. Creo que todos nuestros problemas son creados por el hombre y que somos los únicos que podemos resolverlos. Los humanos son hechos físicamente de la experiencia de sus padres y de los padres de ellos. Si la experiencia viene del ADN entonces mi gran esperanza es ayudar al mundo a ver mis obras con la esperanza de que nos evolucionemos a algo mas pensativo e interesante.

La manera que trato de asegurar mis obras es cumpliendo este objetivo para evitar cualquier significado directo o proceso de pensamiento o la transparencia. Si una obra no tiene un ‘mensaje’ claro entonces no puede ser rechazado por un entendimiento falso.
