Biography

Miguel de la Cruz is a Venezuelan artist that has been part of more than 40 collective exhibits and 2 solo art exhibits in New York City and Madrid. He studied in the School of Visual Arts “Arturo Michelena” in the city of Valencia, Venezuela and in the New York Arts League. Additionally he has been part of several seminars that have taken place at the UCV and in the Patricia Phelps Cisneros Foundation in Venezuela. His works have been exhibited in the Jadite Gallery in Manhattan and the Arte Marcos Duplex in Venezuela and his works are owned by several private collectors.

In 2012, his works were recognized by the City University of New York & QCC Art gallery in the Latin-American Encyclopedia of Contemporary Artists 2^nd edition, and at the same time, he was awarded the price Universidad de Carabobo de Venezuela, with the award of best drawing in the Salon of Visual Arts “Don Ramón Mejías.

Artist Statement

The work that I’ve done, is mostly based in the paintings of expressionist features and abstract tendencies, with its pictorial principals outside of the academic aesthetic, only guiding myself by the studies of composition and my own research about color.

Forking between emotions and the act, in a very conscious form to the moment of translating the result of each personal research, in these moments I find myself in a time of my artistic career where I take the bullfighting as an excused element for the realization of the art works as symbols or elements but not as a playful act, with personal experiences and rapprochement in the “el toro” element since my childhood. Developing it in painting, drawing, graphic design, and contemporary sculpture: if its assemblies or installations, with a hard research that everyday comes into action and also with photography as a medium.

Miguel de la Cruz es un artista venezolano que ha participado en más de 40 exposiciones colectivas y 2 individuales de arte en la ciudad de New York y Madrid. Realizó estudios en la escuela de Artes Plásticas “Arturo Michelena” de la ciudad de Valencia – Venezuela y en la Liga de Arte de New York. Adicionalmente ha participado en diferentes seminarios realizados en la UCV, y en la Fundación Patricia Phelps Cisneros. Su obra ha sido representada en la Jadite Gallery de Manhattan y Arte Marcos Dúplex en Venezuela y su trabajo forma parte de múltiples colecciones privadas.

En el 2012, su obra fue reconocida por The City University of New York & QCC Art Gallery en la Enciclopedia Latinoamerica de Artistas Contemporáneos en el II Tomo, y a su vez, obtuvo el Premio Universidad de Carabobo de Venezuela, en la modalidad de Mejor Obra en Dibujo en el Salón de Artes Plásticas “Don Ramón Mejías”

Declaracion del Artista

El trabajo que realizo, se basa en su mayoría, en la pintura de rasgos Expresionistas y tendencias Abstractas, con sus principios pictóricos fuera de la estética del academicismo, solo guiándome por los estudios obtenidos de composición y las investigaciones propias acerca del Color. Bifurcando entre las emociones y el acto, de manera muy consciente al momento de plasmar el resultado de cada investigación personal, en estos momentos me encuentro en una etapa de mi vida artística donde tomo la Tauromaquia como elemento excusa para la realización de Obras de Arte, como símbolo o elemento mas no como acto lúdico, con experiencias personales y acercamientos con el elemento “el toro” desde la infancia. Desarrollándolo en Pintura, Dibujos, Artes Gráficas, Escultura Contemporánea: bien sea Ensamblajes o Instalaciones, con una ardua investigación que cada día se lleva en acción, y también la Fotografía como medio.
