Anirays Camino

Biography

Anirays Camino b. 1981 is a Venezuelan photographer based in Miami. Camino has a master in visual arts, with a major in photography, from Miami International University of Art & Design.

Since 2012 Anirays has been creating photographic based artwork. She has exhibited both in Venezuela and USA, most recently Camino participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters of American Annual Benefit Auction, 2015 and in Fisher Island Annual Benefit Gala 2015. Early 2015 the Visual Arts Faculty selected her work for Miami’s International University Gallery.

Camino is currently based in Miami, FL.

About Camino’s work

Caminos art making process is almost as important for her as the resulting pieces, combining her passion for aerial photography with collage and installation to create a final image on imaginary worlds. Her high vantage point of view images provide the stage to the fantastical settings in Camino’s work.

One of her signature elements is the incorporation of inanimate objects, such as figurines into her works. These theatrical compositions dramatize Camino’s imagery while constructing visual comments on subjects inspired in human desires, quests, sense of identity and belonging. The visual result can sometimes be more abstract than others, but they usually tend to have a lined narrative built on obsessive repetition patterns that lead to unexpected places or pleasures.

Tactile elements are present in Camino’s work as she continuously and consciously explores the role of texture in her photographs, creating rich and unexpected contrasts, achieved by her elaborate art making process.

Camino cites Andreas Gursky, Vic Muniz and Christo amongst her biggest influences.

Artist Statement

My passion for vertical and aerial views enables me to create micro-worlds of the multitudes of individuals captured through my camera lens. The Little figures that I use to represent these lives may be going on the right direction to achieve their goal, and other times they are headed the wrong way ore even lost.

I want to give the sense that all of our actions are always taking us in some direction; all actions have reactions. The patterns in our lives are controlled by repetitive behaviors that can be perpetuated through the consequence of being in a particular environment.

The photograph is meant to create a moment in time that connects an imaginary world with real life or history in which the figures generate the narrative. These elements are all pieces to fashion patterns of life. They are carefully placed to create balance and engage the viewer thus allowing the mind to experiment a new perspective.
